Coronavírus: Federação internacional lança fundo para ajudar atletas
A Federação Internacional de Voleibol (FIVB) lançou esta terça-feira um fundo para ajudar a curto prazo os atletas profissionais de voleibol e voleibol de praia, afetados financeiramente pela crise gerada com a covid-19.
Em nota publicada na sua página oficial, a FIVB explica que o comité executivo aprovou a iniciativa levada a cabo por Ary S. Graça, presidente do organismo, e da comissão de atletas, para ajudar atletas em dificuldades.
Volleyball was created by American William George Morgan, Physical Education professor at the YMCA (Christian Youth Association) of Holyoke, Massachusetts (USA), in 1895. Although basketball, created a few years earlier by YMCA professor James Naismith had a great acceptance, Morgan found the sport strenuous and of great physical contact. Thus, he had the idea of developing a modality that was lighter and, at the same time, stimulating for his middle-aged students, most of them formed by businessmen. The biggest problems faced by Morgan focused on the decision of which type of ball should be used. The first option was to use the basketball, but quickly the teacher saw that it was very heavy.

A altura da rede de voleibol varia consoante o género dos seus praticantes.
Se for masculino, a rede deve estar a 2,43 metros do solo, enquanto se for feminino deve estar a 2,24 metros.

Nos Jogos Olímpicos de 1988 foi colocada uma nova regra onde o jogo não podia ser interrompido para que limpassem o suor do chão.
Os jogadores tinham que levar uma toalha, que ficava presa aos calções por trás, para limparem o suor do chão quando fosse preciso. Felizmente hoje essa regra já não existe.

Número de Saltos numa Partida
Um jogador numa partida é capaz de fazer entre 60 a 80 saltos.
Por isso é importante que seja forte de pernas para estar sempre nas melhores condições.

Jogo mais Longo da História
O jogo mais longo que já foi jogado a nível profissional foi a final dos Jogos Olímpicos de 1976, onde a Polónia e a União Soviética jogaram durante 4 horas e 36 minutos.

O voleibol é considerado o único esporte olímpico que treina os músculos todos do corpo e que cansa menos o jogador. Isto porque não existe contato ou esforço permanente como em outros desportos, tais como futebol, andebol, etc.
