Figueira Beach Rugby International Canceled
The Figueira Beach Rugby International 2020 Beach Rugby Event has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. See the organization's statement here:
Figueira Beach Rugby International will not be held in 2020.
After 10 uninterrupted editions of one of the most prestigious Beach Rugby events in the world, it is with natural sadness that we announce that in view of the global situation resulting from the Covid-19 crisis and the rules imposed by the Portuguese Government with regard to the use of
beaches during the next summer, the Beach Rugby show will not invade the beaches of Praia and Buarcos in Figueira da Foz.
For the first time since 2010, it will not be possible for us to bring together a truly global community of passionate about Beach Rugby and celebrate the good vibes, friendship and joy among all, however we promise to return in 2020 with the best edition of Figueira Beach Rugby ever.
We are grateful to all our partners and people who, individually, in the last 10 years have always helped us to keep the dream alive.

HISTORY
Today, the most accepted version regarding the origin of rugby is related to an irregular play by William Webb Ellis, during a football match in 1823.
Before that, there are reports of similar practices in Roman antiquity, where a Harpastum game was played. In addition, in Europe, more specifically in Italy, in the 16th century, there was a sport very similar to rugby, and which was named Calcio.
For a time it was practiced in physical education classes in England, but still without a unified regulation. The unification of the rules only started around 1846, also by the students of Rugby School. The first match between countries took place in 1871, played by England and Scotland.
In the Olympics of the Modern Era, rugby was played in four of the first seven editions, the first of which was in 1900, in the Paris Games. The others were in 1908, 1920 and 1924. In the latter, the International Olympic Committee chose to withdraw the competition from the competition
First international championship
In 1883, the first international competition between teams was held, the Home International Championship, made up of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales, with England being the first champion.
We are a family owned and operated business.
In 1910 France entered the championship that was called Five Nations. In 1931, France left the championship that was renamed Home International Championship. In 1947, after the Second World War, the championship was again played together with France and was called the Five Nations again. Until 1993, there was no prize for the winner of the competition (any type of medal or trophy). In 2000, Italy entered the championship, which was renamed Six Nations.
